Interview(Q & A Round):

Q: How did you start your business? What made you to think to enter into a business?

The idea of MyWebERA came all on a sudden while writing in a blog on Indian Online Gaming Industry and Web2.0 Market in India. After finishing that write-up we four friends were chatting over phone and was brainstorming what we can do out of our regular job…and we came up with an idea of building a portal for those common people who have the talent but not able to come to the lime-light. Now why Painting and Animation, it came from our heart as we all were fond of painting and in childhood couple of us used to paint a lot, but all of them went un-noticed. The spark came from there and we brainstorm more to start MyWebERA.

We all four had one thing in common, we were not so much fond of working in a company and earn our bread n butter form the traditional monthly salary from some one else’s company. We all wanted to do something of our own and were ready to spend more time sitting in front of computer and eating each others brain.

Q: Tell us in detail about your business, your idea and how it can benefit others?

In a single line, MyWebERA provides and will continue to provide a unique platform over internet for talent showcase for individuals and encourage related activities.

MyWebERA is an online platform for painters, animators and game developers to upload their own creations, sell, build a social network around the content, get rates, receive comments from viewers and also build a community around it. MyWebERA also hosts events online and off-line to encourage talents around India and also globally.

Why the idea for MyWebERA? We strongly believe India needs huge number of Game Developer and Animator – MyWebERA will encourage individuals to come into lime-light. Painters need to get a platform to reach out to global mass – MyWebERA will provide them global platform to sell and interact. Over to that MyWebERA helps building a community of like minded people with same creative interest.

Q: What is your revenue or business model?

Some of the major revenue models that MyWebERA has as of now are:

  • Online Advertising
  • Transaction charges through selling content online
  • Holding offline/campus events (sponsorships)
  • Customized service for hosting online exhibition

We are launching some new services and that is expected to be another major revenue stream for MyWebERA.

Q: What are your expansion plans and where do you see your business 5 years down the line?

We are planning to start up a new business wing soon (can not disclose the details due to internal policies) which will be a strong revenue earner for MyWebERA. We have plans to increase the team size soon and build a strong Marketing and Technical team.

We see MyWebERA to be India’s one of the largest and one stop destination for Online Talent Showcase in 5 years down the line.

Q: What were the biggest challenge(s) you faced in your journey as entrepreneur till now?

The biggest challenge is Finance crunch; hence we are now in a hunt for a right investor.

Obviously the other challenge faced by us is to get proper manpower to manage and maintain the website and other operations. And presently the challenge we face is to build the brand visibility and get proper response and support from audience.

Q: What is the biggest mistake you made as an amateur entrepreneur?

MyWebERA team is always very enthusiastic and charged up to do something different. And we initially came up with many great ideas and started working and collating many of them. However over the time we realized it’s always wise to plan, focus and then develop to gain the best result. And then onwards we have identified the important and high potential thing and working around that.

So the biggest mistake was lack of initial planning and proper direction.

Q: What you want to say to the new entrepreneurs or the one who wants to start his/her own business?

PDCA – ‘Plan-Do-Check-Act’ is the best way to go forward. Anyone wants to start their own venture must keep a backup fund to manage their living for 3 years at least, whatever way it is possible. It’s good to take risk but best to play safe.
