Interview with blogger Vaishali

31 October 2009 No Comment

“Write well and write about the things that matter to you.”

- Vaishali

VaishaliWebneetech.com interviewed Vaishali, started blogging in November 2007; the blog “http://earthvegan.blogspot.com mainly focus on Vegan food, animal rights and issues till now the blog has about 300 posts, including around 250 recipes, both Indian and global.

We found no better words than her own words in describing her journey as a blogger.

Vaishali says, I had been a meat-eater all my life and I loved both cooking and eating great and unusual foods. But I also loved animals and had wanted to become a vegan for a few years. The only thing stopping me was the fear that I would end up having to eat bland, boring stuff all the time.

When I finally did give up all animal products in my diet—including meat, fish, milk, yogurt, cheese, ghee, honey and eggs—I started to discover new foods free of animal products that were delicious and healthier than anything I had eaten before. I became more experimental and adventurous in the kitchen and very soon I realized I was eating and feeling better as a vegan than I ever had as a meat-eater. That’s when I decided to start blogging about my recipes so I could help other fence-sitters as well as other vegans discover delicious, healthy alternatives to meat and other animal products.

In an interview with webneetech.com, Vaishali shared her experience of blogging.

Interview (Q&A Round)

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

I had been a meat-eater all my life and I loved both cooking and eating great and unusual foods.

Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

I usually blog about both Indian and global vegan recipes I create in my kitchen as well as about animal issues that may be in the news. My aim is to create a holistic understanding about animal welfare. Veganism is not about giving something up—it’s about consciously enriching your life by rejecting violence toward animals at every level. It’s a very Gandhian concept and one I think any Indian can relate to.

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

I use blogspot simply because I created a blog there when I knew nothing about blogging and then I just stuck with it. It works very well for me.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

I update about 4-5 times a week and now have around 300 posts on my blog, including around 250 recipes, both Indian and global.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

I must confess I don’t do as much social networking as I should. I do visit other blogs that interest me and leave comments as often as I can.

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the
blogsphere?

Write well and write about the things that matter to you. I for one cannot go beyond reading two lines of a blog written in sloppy English, no matter how substantial the content is. No matter what it is you’re writing about, make sure you put some care into how you present it to readers.

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

I do have some adsense ads on my blog, although it takes a while and a substantial readership for those to pay off. I am all for bloggers monetizing their blogs with ads (not paid posts). I see some bloggers who reject the idea, but let’s face it—many bloggers offer great content free to readers and it really shouldn’t offend anyone if we place ads for relevant products without letting those ads influence what we write.
