Interview (Q&A Round)

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

I started off by reading and following blogs. I loved one personal blog a lot, and thought how cool it would be for me to have some kind of journal where I pen down my thoughts and experiences.

Q. Tell us in detail about your blog, your idea and how it can benefit others?

My blog started off as a personal blog, but it has now moved to being a kind of review blog. I review books and movies. I write about my experiences with various restaurants, and shops.  I also love to write about my blogging experiences and sharing any tips and tricks that I learnt with fellow bloggers. Of late though, I have been mainly concentrating on books and movies.

Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

I mainly cover books (simply because I am a manic bookworm, and I love to write about books); I also blog quite a bit about movies.

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

I used to blog on blogger before I migrated my blog to Wordpress. I love both platforms for very different reasons.

There are so many Wordpress features that I love. I will try to list them out here:

I love how we can categorize posts using both Tags and Categories. Blogger only allows Labels

  • I love the Tag Surfer and Related Posts options
  • The choice of themes (although it sucks that we cannot use our own themes on the Wordpress.com free platform)
  • I love the constant innovations
  • The option to add any number of pages

What I like about Blogger:

  • Complete freedom to customize your blog
  • Ability to add widgets that have Java code

But all said and done Wordpress rocks for me.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

I update my blog about 2-3 times a week. My blog currently has 210 posts.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

To increase blog readership, I use the following tools:

  • Alphainventions
  • Listing in various blog directories such as indiblogger, blogged, blogadda
  • Commenting on blogs that are similar to mine and building a relationship with other bloggers
  • Some social networking tools such as Twitter, Digg, Addthis and Facebook (although I am not sure how successfully I have implemented this)

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the
blogsphere?

  • Decide on a topic that really interests you and blog about that.
  • Make blogging a habit. If you update your blog once a week/ once in 2 weeks, it is going to be difficult to generate a readership. You can afford to do this once your blog is established, but newbies need to blog regularly (it will also help you polish up your writing skills).
  • Comment on blogs that catch your interest
  • Be patient. There are hundreds of blogs out there. It may take time to garner good readership. Do not be disheartened if you don’t get comments in your initial posts.

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

No, I don’t earn revenue. If I could, I would. But, I don’t think my kind of blog is a revenue-earner. For the moment, it is purely a pleasurable activity.

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?

It’s really difficult for me to restrict myself to a few. I read blogs quite copiously – especially those that are written by my friends.
