Interview (Q&A Round):

Q. What motivated you to start Blogging?

It was 2008. I don’t remember the date exactly but must be somewhere down May-June. I stumbled upon an article on blogging and how blogs can become a platform for sharing information. Soon I realized the potential behind Blogging and started my own tech blog.

Q. Tell us in detail about your blog, your idea and how it can benefit others?

Ampercent is a technology blog on Computers, software and cool stuff from internet. We write practical and useful tips so that you can get the right tools to meet your specific technical needs.

The idea behind the blog is to provide you with useful tips and resources on technology so that you become technically self driven.

Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

Generally we cover tech news, software reviews and useful tools which can help others in their day to day computing tasks. The reason behind is simple : We found a lot of problems while doing stuff with computers and thought that we should share our experiences and solve common problems.

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

Ampercent runs on Self hosted wordpress. The reasons ? Well there are so many :

  • More control and flexibility over other blogging platforms.
  • Superb Plugin support. You get almost every type of plugin that you need
  • Things like SEO, Design etc are really simple to handle.
  • Automated handling of tasks, No dirty hand coding so that we can focus on the content.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

We update our blog whenever we have something useful to say. Typically we update our blog with 3-5 posts per week. I am working on increasing the posting frequency though.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

Good content is what we focus upon. Organic traffic brings the most number of visitors. I don’t rely much upon Social media traffic as they don’t bring recurring visitors for me. However for Branding, social media is the way to go. Twitter and Facebook brings good traffic

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the blogsphere?

If you want to make it big, you have to be original. Be specific in your posts and stick to your niche. Always have your own voice and focus on the user. Remember, every blog is different and god has given each of us enough creativity. Be creative, be unique and everything else will follow.

One more thing – The first one year of blogging can be a bit disheartening in terms of Traffic, Money, Recognition. Don’t lose heart – they will come.

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

It has been 1 year since I started blogging and I am earning quite a bit. I think prior to monetizing, a blog must focus on developing a loyal reader base. If you have just started out, just focus on writing content. Wait for the first 1 year and gain search traffic. You should have at least 200-300 daily visits each day before you can make any real money.

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?

Well there are several blogs that I read on a regular basis. Some of them are :

Gr8 to find you here Amit. Nice tips.
To all others just some naughty little info about Amit
    1. He is a great guitarist, we two were a member of a rock band, much before creating this blog of ours, Ampercent. Thats when our frienship started.
    2. He has a great liking towards palmistry.
    3. He used to be my Table-tennis partner, he is damn good in it too.
    4. He was also featured as the FACE OF FACEBOOK for OCT’09 at Internet Techies, yet another blog.

There are yet more, but I suppose its not the best place to talk about it, else he may kill me.
    Thanks & bye.
