Interview (Q&A Round)

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

I started penning thought in my diary when I was in fifth standard. I have no idea when I became possessive about my diary and it became my best friend. On noticing my passion for writing, about two and a half years ago my brother instigated me to blog. At first, I was reluctant because I didn’t wish to share my thoughts with the world but still I created an account at www.ibibo.com . As a novice, I didn’t know what and how to write. There was a lot to share, within the pages of my diary but I was hesitant. Initially, I started with inspirational verses and from there things started rolling. The comments under every post used to encourage. The actual motivation came in when I was selected among the first 20 Hall Of Fame bloggers at ibibo.com. Since then, there is no stopping…

Q. Tell us in detail about your blog, your idea and how it can benefit others?

My blog, http://anuradhabanerji.blogspot.com/, is at its infancy; I have recently started writing here and have only 6 verses to my name. I am planning to use this platform to share only my poems. As yet I have written on child labour, some that give an inspiration to move ahead in life, another is love mixed with nature and rest on various thoughts. I don’t give any point-wise tips about anything but most of my posts come with a lesson for life.

My posts at www.incubation.com are articles on social issues or others issues that most of us are surrounded by. Many things keep happening around us and we don’t get a platform to express our views. This platform gives me that expression.

At http://www.ibibo.com/anuradhabanerji , I have written about everything that I could think of- social issues, my views on certain news events, humor, poems, inspirational pieces and even a lot about myself.

Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

I generally convey my views on whatever topic or area that I cover. There are two reasons for this-

  • Any human being, when gathers something, makes an opinion about it and desires to share it with others and get deeper knowledge about it. With this in mind, I try to express my feelings about things that I come across and put it in the social front for others to share their opinions. With their feedbacks my understanding of the issue becomes wholesome.
  • I feel that people wish to know about others’ feelings and thoughts about everything. Why would someone come to read my blog if it looks like a news paper…?

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

I am presently using blogspot, ibibo and incubation360.com for blogging. I have got free expression at these spaces and over the time I have developed regular readers at these spaces who inspire me, motivate me and also criticize me, which helps me to show improvement with every work of mine.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

I contribute an average of 4 posts per month, per blog.  My blog at blogspot has 6 poems, at ibibo.com I have more than 200 posts.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

I use social networking sites for a few very close friends and not for blog readership; for blogs my strategy is different.

  • I don’t force anyone to read my posts. To make others read my posts I make it a point to read their posts and also give feedbacks on their works.
  • I keep my posts simple. I resist using word that one would have to look up in the dictionary.
  • At many occasions I illustrate with pictures, that I click myself
  • I try to keep the fonts and formats legible and colorful, so as to make my space attractive.

Simplicity has worked for me till now…

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the blogsphere?

When one starts writing one has an idea and desire in mind. It is best to follow one’s own style. While reading others in the blog- sphere one may develop a desire to adopt some other style. One can have a role model but copying a style would kill the essence of one’s own writing.

One should be simple, expressive, and precise.

Beating about the bush or drifting away from the topic may distract the reader.

Finally, simple and honest thoughts are always welcome by readers.

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

I have not yet monetized my blog and I would not do it in the near future. I write to give expression to my feelings. All that I write is invaluable for me hence; I don’t wish to monetize it.

Well, being a part of www.myLot.com I have earned some revenues from the discussions and responses there. For that matter, I have also earned revenues from www.ibibo.com , ‘Sawal’ section.

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?

There are many blogs that I follow on various platforms. It’s difficult to rate first five…there are many more whom I adore and respect… top 5 is too difficult to name. Anyway, here is my list-

  • http://myidleideas.blogspot.com/ , http://idlemind.ibibo.com/
  • http://thinking-inktank.blogspot.com/ (at ibibo too)
  • http://shadowy-dreams.blogspot.com/ (at ibibo too)
  • http://rajivlucknow.ibibo.com/blogs

(I have not been able to give the ibibo links for others because of some technical problem with the site. Even my blog is missing for the time being.)
