Interview (Q&A Round)

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

Writing down my thoughts helps me to think through an issue more completely. I feel that, in my case, the processes of thinking and writing reinforce each other. Apart from this, blogging gives me the opportunity to have interactions/discussions around the topic. I have found that, in the case of some of the posts, the comments & the discussion around the comments might be more valuable than the posts themselves!

Q. Tell us in detail about your blog, your idea and how it can benefit others?

This blog deals primarily with the domains of Human Resource Management, Organization Development and Personal Effectiveness @ Work. The attempt has been to look at some of the key issues in these domains from a somewhat unorthodox perspective. Most of the posts have been triggered by curious things that I have noticed during more than a decade of experience and experimentation in these domains. While I don’t think that there can be standard answers/solutions to many of the fundamental issues in a complex domain like people management, I do hope that these posts will trigger some thoughts/ideas in the minds of the readers that can be useful in finding answers (or better still – questions) that are relevant in their contexts.

Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

Most of the posts in my blog explore paradoxes and dilemmas in the domains of Human Resources, Organization Development & Personal Effectiveness. As I have mentioned in my blog, a paradox occurs when there are multiple perspectives (doxa) that exist alongside (para) – each of which is true – but they appear to be in conflict with one another. There are no easy solutions to these paradoxes. Hence, they are more challenging, frustrating and rewarding (all at the same time) to explore. I feel that grappling with these paradoxes over an extended period of time can help one to arrive at the simplicity that exists on the other side of complexity (the title for my blog).

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

I use blogspot. I find it very easy to use and it provides all the functionalities/tools I need. As I haven’t done a comparative analysis of the different blogging platforms, I am not competent to comment on their relative merits and demerits.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

My blog has 56 posts as of now (written over a period of 3 years). These days, I prefer to let each new post evolve in my mind for quite sometime before I write them.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

The only networking site that I use is LinkedIn. My blog is linked to my LinkedIn profile.

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the blogsphere?

I don’t consider myself to be an expert in blogging and hence I am not sure if I am in a position to give tips to new bloggers. My personal opinion is that one should try to develop a perspective on whatever one is trying to write a post on and that the post should have some sort of a ‘take away’ for the readers (i.e. it should address the ‘so what’ question).

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

No. Also, I don’t have any plans to monetize my blog in the near future.

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?

1.  Gautam Ghosh:  http://www.gautamblogs.com/

2.  Letter from London:  http://discussionleader.hbsp.com/corkindale/

3.  Penelope Trunk:  http://blog.penelopetrunk.com/
