Interview Round (Q&A):

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

In January 2007, I resigned from my job as a Senior Copy Editor and Correspondent with a newspaper daily and was looking for a medium to continue writing. Blogging seemed like an ideal solution. I got addicted to it soon enough and haven’t been able to give it up even though I am writing elsewhere as well now.

Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

When I started blogging, I was very conscious of writing only about topics that were generic. I tried to keep myself out of the blog as much as possible because I could not understand why someone would be interested in my life. Gradually, the blog became a personalized space where I could share nuggets from my life, my feelings and my thoughts. And I realized that people were interested. Now, I write about anything that appeals to me in a positive or negative way. The blog is about everything that’s “me”.

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

I started out with blogspot and have stuck to it because I have grown used to it. I tried shifting to wordpress because it’s more feature rich, but I still think blogspot is more user-friendly. There have been a few hitches sometimes, but nothing that hasn’t smoothed itself out.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

As frequently as I get ideas to write, Sometimes, it’s about ten times a month. Sometimes, it’s only four.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

I do not use social networking sites because I blog anonymously. The only tool I use to increase my blog readership is my writing! If people like what and how I write (which I hope they do), they will read me.

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the blogsphere?

Be original and be innovative. That’s the only way to ensure a steady readership. Interacting with other blogs and bloggers also gets people curious about who you are and what you write and attracts more visitors to your blog even if they are not regular readers.

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes, then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

As of now, I do not earn any revenue from my blog. But I wouldn’t mind if I could rake in some moolah by doing what I love to!

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?

I have over 50 blogs on my bloglist and many more on Google Reader. So answering that question is a tad difficult. But if I must, I’ll say:

I agree with you D, I find I enjoy reading your posts about how you feel- angst, rants, reactions, celebrations all add to the ‘interestingness quotient’ of your blog.

Honoured to be amongst the bloggers you like to read, the feeling is mutual :)
