“blogging is a lovely way of reaching out to the world and share your views on anything and everything under the sun”

- Chandni

Chandni“Well, I think it was a couple of friends back in 2005, who had all started blogging so my attempt was more of a means to appease my curiosity regarding the phenomenon of blogging and find out what the buzz was all about. It had started out like an online journal with very small updates on life that would be of no interest to anyone beyond family and friends.

I guess my blog is helpful in providing some comic relief or at least has the “feel good factor”. It’s generally a light hearted blog, so I think people just enjoy the positivity it exuberates.” says Chandni a Development professional started “Bohemian rhapsody” in August 2005, till now the blog carries 580 posts with about 25000 page views a month.

The blog is all about her personal her thoughts, views, experience and opinion about life or anything which happened around her and sometime she also likes to post about movie or book reviews and also on relationships.

WebNeeTech interviewed Chandni, to find more about the picture behind blogging and her experience as a blogger.

Interview (Q&A Round):

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

Well, I think it was a couple of friends back in 2005, who had all started blogging so my attempt was more of a means to appease my curiosity regarding the phenomenon of blogging and find out what the buzz was all about. It had started out like an online journal with very small updates on life that would be of no interest to anyone beyond family and friends.

Q. Tell us in detail about your blog, your idea and how it can benefit others?

My blog is still personal in nature, but covers my opinions and critique of things that happen around me, be it a piece of news, or a movie watched or a book read. It also has a generous helping of “slice of life” posts, where I share small, cute or funny incidents from my daily life…either commenting on the husband (referred to as The Boy), or on marriage or relationships etc. From the feedback that I receive, I guess my blog is helpful in providing some comic relief or at least has the “feel good factor”. It’s generally a light hearted blog, so I think people just enjoy the positivity it exuberates.

Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

Apart from my personal stories, I do write quite a bit about issues related to gender and feminism. It is a topic close to my heart and I take pride in associating myself with the movement of feminism.

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

I use wordpress now and am extremely pleased with it. Not only does it offer the best features right now for blogging, its dashboard is easy to navigate, with a neat system to check out page views, by days and months, as well as to follow incoming links from other blogs.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

Well, there have been times I have updated the blog daily! Of course there are phases, sometimes its too active and people complain its hard to keep up, and at times its as less as once a week or two weeks and people come and ask for a new post. But I’d say, ideally I like to blog at least 2-3 times a week if not daily! Currently, the blog carries 580 posts.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

It might come as a surprise, but actually I haven’t done anything ever to increase readership and publicize the blog. It has spread more through word of mouth I think. In fact I am the other extreme who shies away from actively linking up the blog at social sites!

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the blogsphere?

Well, blogging is a lovely way of reaching out to the world and share your views on anything and everything under the sun. However, how nice this space is depends on the people in it. So my first advice is, be polite, positive and original. If you do start a blog, try and update often so as to not lose interest or readership. This space, like any other, requires nurturing to grow and stay healthy and the most important and most basic advice – Have fun while doing it. Only then is it worth it!

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

Well, I don’t. In fact every time I have had offers to put up ads on the blog, I have refused. For now, it’s a hobby that brings me a lot of pleasure. It’s a good way to share my thoughts, pass time, and actually make new friends too! I enjoy it too much to monetize it (if you know what I mean!) so perhaps I am not the best person to answer this question.

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?

Oh this is a tough one! I have been an active blogger for four years now, and over these years the number of blogs I read has just grown crazily. It is no exaggeration that I currently subscribe to the feeds of more than 200 blogs!
