Interview (Q &A Round):
Q. What motivated you to start blogging?
I came across the concept of blogging through friends in college, following which I started reading their blogs and then on graduating from college, I decided it was time I started my blog. Maybe it was a consequence of ending my college days, or maybe it was because I had just started a new job in an internet venture. I am not sure which it rightly would be, but when the month of July ended in 2007, I had published my first ever post.
Q. Tell us in detail about your blog, your idea and how it can benefit others?
Vector Gaming took off with thoughts which crossed my mind on reading articles or on stumbling through Stumbleupon. Once I started to blog, I also started visiting more blogs and from there hopping on to even more. Through this journey of blog discovery, I felt an urge to express my personal thoughts too through my blog and hence I deviated from my topic related posts and here vector gaming ventured into a personal blog space.
A visitor will benefit from the travel posts, book reviews and also if you are animal fan, as the blog has quite a few pictures of my pet cat. I call her Whisky.
Q. What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?
Most of my posts are generic personal daily thoughts or incidents, or if I happen to do some interesting cooking, then that too makes it way up there. Apart from this, there are some books which I have liked, and some places which I have visited over these years which also feature on my blog.
Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?
Blogger – There is no particular reason, except that I started my blog at blogger 2 years back, and have decided to stick to it. I have contemplated moving to Wordpress many times with the excellent features that wordpress offers which blogger doesn’t seem to be bothered about. In fact every time I think of moving, I decide that I shall wait and see if things will improve.
Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?
My frequency of posts depend on how much time I have on my hand, and also if I have something interesting to speak about to my readers. On one end, I would post 1-2 posts a week and the other end would be just a post every other week.
Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?
I do not use any tools to increase blog readership, but I do keep a track on the visitors and from where they arrive. I have listed my blog at social networking sites, but I do not ever actively market my blog at any of them. I think the key to getting viewership is to actively participate in blogs, read and comment on them. Blogging, I have seen in most cases, work on a reciprocal reading concept.
Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the
blogsphere?
I think the most important aspect is to read others blogs, interact with them, and then you shall have in due course some readers coming to your blog too. Also ensure that you do update your blog at least once a week… this will have other bloggers following you through RSS feeds. And there is should also be an easily accessible RSS link on your blog home.
Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?
No, at present I do not earn any revenue through my blog. I have thought many times to include Google Ads, but in that case I would be required to write posts which would cater to some form of revenue making. Once I am ready for that, I shall add Google Ads to my blog.
Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?
I follow many blogs, but if I have to list my favorites, then these one short of ten shall be them
- A wide angle view of India – http://nitawriter.wordpress.com/
- Banalities of Life - http://roopscoop.wordpress.com/ (She has recently come back to the blogosphere, and her posts are simply amazing)
