Interview (Q&A Round):

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

When I started blogging way back in 2004, it was just an experiment inspired by few of my friends who used to blog. Once I started writing, it became addictive, especially when I started getting responses to my posts. It was a pleasant surprise when some people would write to me to write on certain topics. As I kept writing, I could see my writing evolving and today when I look back, I can see a major change in how I write.

Q. Tell us in detail about your blog? What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

I read about 2 books a month on an average. I review all of them on my blog. I like to read books from a wide range and no two consecutive books are of same genre, and I like sharing my views about the book, the author and the subject. I also like the recommendations that come from my readers about the good books that they have read and that adds to my to-be-read list.

I am a compulsive traveler and I like to travel in all kinds of places. I am developing an inclination for culture, heritage and history lately and if you read my blog regularly, you would see me visiting lots of ancient historical places and also reading about them. I also look at places which are in the vicinity of cities but are rarely visited by the citywallahs who are otherwise always looking for something new to do. Usually a radius of 100 kms which is do-able in a day has lots of off beat places to offer. I visit and explore these places and write about them. What keeps me motivated to do so, besides my inherent need to travel is my reader’s feedback of how they look at my blog before planning their weekends or travels.

Q. Why reader should come on your blog…What is the best part of your blog?

Come to my blog if you read books and like to discuss them.

Come to my blog if you like to explore India, if you have been to a place that you would want to share with me or would look for options to plan your next travel.

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

I use blogger.com. I started blogging with it and continue to use it. Call it brand loyalty or comfort zone, though I want them to give me some more features.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

On an average I post once a week at least, and my annual average is about 5 posts a month. I have a total for 340 posts at the moment.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

I have not really done much to promote my blog. I am listed on a few blog directories. In the social networks, I share a link to my blog on my profile and share the link on travel networks as and when it is relevant to the discussion.

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the blogsphere?

I think the best bet in the long run is the quality of the content, and some bit of regularity and sincerity with which you write.

Q. What you like most about internet and why?

The democratic and transparent nature of internet is what makes it most interesting for me.

Q. What you hate most about internet and why?

Spam

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

I do have adsense ads on my blog, but I hardly earn anything out of it. The focus is larger than earning from the ads.

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?

I read about 70 blogs on a regularly, some of them through the aggregate blogs like Desicritics (http://desicritics.org) where I also contribute at times.
