“First important things- stop saying you are doing it just for fun. Accept the fact you want to make it big enough to quit your job and do work towards it by setting proper goals (like reader, comments per months, etc…), measure & improve yourself (like you will do in another job).”

Interview (Q&A Round):

Q. What motivated you to start blogging?

To cure my brain disease…my brain functions at super speed so my hands/writing/typing skips words to keep up. Result would be chewed sentences which mostly only I can understand..;)) So to improve writing skills, vocabulary/grammar/spellings and to kill boredom and in pursuit of sanity, wisdom and to document my thoughts so that I can to be more accountable for it and most of all- I blog because it’s cheaper than therapy.

Q. Tell us in detail about your blog? What area or topic you generally cover in your blog, any special reason behind it?

Book reviews, and glass half full view of issues & events.

My blog is repository of things which interesting me, which I come across, which I experience and to unload my excess thoughts, perspective, interpretations of what I do/hear/read and to reflect what I believe in.

Sometimes I need to get stuff off my mind/chest/stomach… both wonderful exciting and depressing things. And we can share those only with two kinds of people…close friends or strangers.

Q. Which blogging platform you are using (wordpress, blogspot, bloggers etc), any reason about it?

Initially started with rediffblog then moved to blogspot and later to wordpress. Although I like the flexibility with blogspot to change template, add widgets, etc… but I prefer wordpress for its design.

Q. How frequent you update your blog? How many post your blog is carrying at present?

Of-course I hope to be more frequency but for now it’s been very random. Just checked, across all my blogs I have around 400posts over 5year period. That’s on average 1post per week.

Q. What tools you use to increase your blog readership and bring people on your blog? Do you use social networking sites?

I am at networkblog (Facebook app). I follow my favorite, interesting blogs using Google reader. I read and I do comment on most of them. My comments seem to be bringing some visitors.

Q. Any specific tips you have for new bloggers who want to make it in the blogsphere?

If it’s your personal blog:

  1. Tip is do not take any tips. Just be yourself.
  2. If not sure about starting blog and what to write then you can always start with generic stuff book review, movie review, comments/opinions about news, newsmakers then you will slow find comfort and language to write about your interest.
  3. Blog for yourself not for others expectations. Write about what you like, think, express your opinions. And if others happen to like then its fine but don’t post silly stuff for blog traffic.
  4. Express yourself but be reasonable, kind and try not to be judgmental. Understand everyone lives in their subjective reality. Our reality is not better or worse than others reality.

If you want to make living out of it:

  1. First important things- stop saying you are doing it just for fun. Accept the fact you want to make it big enough to quit your job and do work towards it by setting proper goals (like reader, comments per months, etc…), measure & improve yourself (like you will do in another job).
  2. Make it subject oriented. Choice specific topic (like book review, movie review, parenting, lifestyle, relationship, etc…) which complements your interest & expertise (/knowledge).
  3. Maintain fix frequency. Doesn’t need to be daily but better to keep it atleast once a week.
  4. Don’t keep a post more than a page (A4). If it’s more than 1page then use sub-heading, bullet points, etc…
  5. Use Photos, pictures, videos, Cartoons, quotes…
  6. Try to finish your blog with a question.
  7. Don’t just write blog post. Do get engaged with your audience. Reply your comments. And read & comment on others blogs.

Q. What you like most about internet and why?

  1. I am old enough to see Internet evolve ‘from a shallow and unreliable electronic repository of dirty pictures, inaccurate rumors, inhabited largely by people with no demonstrable social skills’ to “enabler for social changes, justice, knowledge, Liberty, friends all over the world, fun, information, voice for expression…”
  2. The chance that someone actually cares…is theoretically present.
  3. After language it’s one of the best invention, helps us to communicate without any limitations for What/how/who to communicate.
  4. And Thanks to Internet, First time in human history- Ignorance is choice.

Q. What you hate most about internet and why?

It seems like we have been on a downward spiral in terms of what we expect for entertainment & what we regard as information or news and the Internet seems to reflect these low standards.

Q. Do you earn revenue through your blog? If yes then how a blogger should monetize his / her blog? If no, then any plans in future?

No. Its personal blog and I blog to earn peace not money (hence the tag line – I blog because it’s cheaper than therapy’):)

Q. What are your other favorite blogs which you follow, can you list the top 5 such blogs?
